Radio-frequency identification (RFID)

Note: The RFID features depend on the user purchasing a license for the RFID AddOn. To activate this feature contact your Wasp representative. The tenant must have the RFID AddOn License and the user role must have the following permission - Users> Roles> Permission> Mobile RFID Config.)

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is a technology that works on Radio waves. It can identify and track individual items as well as multiple items using the data transmitted through radio waves. This technology does not require a line of sight between the reader and the tag as it can identify an object placed within a reading distance from the scanner. The components of the Mobile RFID reader system are RFID reader and RFID tag. The RFID (Passive) tags do not require power resources and they rely on radio waves coming from the reader. RFID can operate on Low frequency (LF), High Frequency (HF), and Ultra High Frequency (UHF). The range of Low frequency is up to 10 centimeters, High Frequency is up to 1 meter and Ultra- High Frequency is 10 to 15 meters.

AssetCloud RFID only supports RAIN RFID (ISO 18000-63) which is passive UHF RFID.

Note: Currently, the RFID feature is supported only for the AssetCloud Android application. The RFID icon will appear in the Checkout, Checkin, Move, Dispose, and Audit screens.

The RFID rule will work only if the RFID tags prototype is configured (in XML format) in Web (Mobility > RFID Configuration).

Pairing the device and the RFID reader

The device and the RFID reader must be paired properly before using the mobile application.

Steps to use RFID in Mobile Applications:

  1. Once the Scan Parsing Configuration in the AssetCloud Web application is saved, login to the Android device.
  2. Click on Settings > Download. This will download the latest database information.
  3. Click on Settings > RFID Rule. Select the RFID rule.

Note: In case the latest scan parsing changes are not reflecting, then click on the Settings > RFID Rule. Select a different rule first and then reselect the rule you are trying to use like the 'Zebra TC20 RFID Rule' of if using CN80 IP30 to reload the updates done on the web.

  1. Select Transactions > Check Out.
  2. Place the cursor on the Asset Tag field.Tap on the RFID icon.

  1. Select the customer. Pin or lock the customer field.
  2. Place the cursor on the Asset Tag field. Tap on the RFID icon, wait for a few seconds, and tap it again, then it will turn yellow.
  3. Once the RFID turns yellow, it indicates that it is connected and will start communicating with the device.

The reading range in the application can be adjusted by tapping on the Range icon in the Mobile application. The default range will be set at a maximum value. Example - For IP30, the range changes in this pattern -  +3 dB -> +15 dB -> +30dB -> +3 dB -> +15 dB -> +30dB in the application and the default range will be set at 30 dB. To increase or decrease the range, tap on the range icon next to the RFID icon.

  1. Once the device is ready, it will respond back.
  2. Hold the trigger of the RFID scanner while waving it around the area with RFID tags that should be read, then release the trigger and values will show in the Summary screen.

Note: In the Checkout and Check In screen, all the scanned assets will appear in the Summary screen. The summary screen will have the provision to remove the assets.
